The way we use the kitchen socially has evolved quite a bit.  For most of the 20th century, the kitchen was designed to be like a laundry room or a wood shop in the garage: a place for the expert to do their work and then present the finished product to the end users (the rest of the family).

What colors and finishes and materials make a classic kitchen?  I haven't seen a kitchen yet that could fit into many different decades of design.  But some vintage kitchens are coming back into style.  This is a good sign that we won't be reinventing kitchen styles over and over again every decade.
