If kitchens are so expensive to remodel or even update, then why don't more people try to design a kitchen that is timeless? (This picture and caption below just won't center!)

Maybe we just don't know what makes a timeless kitchen yet? The modern kitchen, after all, hasn't been around for very long.

The way we use the kitchen socially has evolved quite a bit. For most of the 20th century, the kitchen was designed to be like a laundry room or a wood shop in the garage: a place for the expert to do their work and then present the finished product to the end users (the rest of the family).

Why do we see the kitchen as such a gathering place now? Is it because we have made cooking so simple that everyone can be involved?
I think that the role women in the family has changed the kitchen.

What colors and finishes and materials make a classic kitchen? I haven't seen a kitchen yet that could fit into many different decades of design. But some vintage kitchens are coming back into style. This is a good sign that we won't be reinventing kitchen styles over and over again every decade.
